KEEPING OUR SEAS ALIVE
Since 2009, Fishlove has helped keep our seas alive by producing eye-catching photographic portraits that has proven to be THE most effective tool in drawing the world’s attention to the plight of our seas through overfishing
Our portraits of celebrated people photographed with fish have been seen by millions of people across the globe, and they have helped our campaign partners notch up success after success: we have helped bring the Mediterranean bluefin tuna stocks back from the brink of extinction, helped make overfishing illegal in Europe, and helped create vast marine reserves on the high seas
We’ve had a lot of success, but there remains work to do. So much damage has been done to our seas, we need to do more than end overfishing. We now need to actively restore species that are on the verge of extinction
This is why, after consultation with experts from the and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (F.A.O.) we will, this year, set up Europe’s first restorative aquaculture project to restore sea urchins and other species along the Southern coast of Italy. It will be the first of many restorative projects that will, we hope, transform the way we use the sea for our food
The collapse of wild fish stocks through overfishing is irreversibly damaging our seas and has been shown to be one of the causes of climate change. After more than fifteen years at the forefront of the campaign to end overfishing, Fishlove is now embarking on an urgent mission to restore our seas by setting up a network of restorative aquaculture farms
SINCE 2009, OVER 160 CELEBRATED INDIVIDUALS HAVE HELPED SAVE OUR SEAS FROM OVERFISHING BY HAVING THEIR FISHLOVE PORTRAIT TAKEN

FISHLOVE HAS CONSISTENTLY MANAGED TO MAKE OVERFISHING HEADLINE NEWS.
We have featured on the front covers and pages of newspapers and magazines around the world. In 2013, our portraits were exhibited at the EU Commission in Brussels in acknowledgment of the role the images have played in saving our seas from overfishing. In June 2023, a major exhibition of the images was held outside the EU Parliament in Brussels.
